On November 24, 1980, Maphumulo was born in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. When she was 13 years old, her parents passed away. Later she took care of her aunt.
The private life of Mbali
In 2009, she started dating fellow actor Dumisani Mbebe; they were married in 2016. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001 when she was 21 years old.She then underwent a mastectomy. But the cancer returned in 2006.

Career of Thandiwe Mbali Maphumulo
Mbali Maphumulo began working in the entertainment industry in 1997. She got started by taking part in the Shell Road to Fame talent contest. She worked with a theater company in Pretoria for a while.
Later, the actress relocated to Gauteng, the smallest province in South Africa. She secured a job and worked there for two weeks. After she was chosen for the theatrical performance of Umoja – Spirit of Togetherness, her skills helped her stand out. Maphumulo participated as a performer in The Lion King. She created individual songs for The Lion King and Umoja. She received the title of Miss Kaizer Chiefs in 1997, which served as the catalyst for her modeling career.
The actress played Fikile in the SABC2 soap series Muvhango in 2008. Later in 2010, she was chosen to play the lead role in the e.tv drama 4Play: Sex Advice for Girls as Amira Mokoena.
Mbali played the lead role in the 2013 Mzansi Magic miniseries Abangani. She was also selected for the part of Isibaya in the Mzansi Magic telenovela.
In the SABC1 drama series Tempy Pushas, Maphumulo played Stella. She portrayed Nomonde in the Mzansi Magic production of Is’thunzi in 2016. The seasoned actress appeared in an episode of eKasi: Our Stories on e.tv in 2015. For season two of Is’thunzi, she returned.
Cebile Buthelezi was portrayed by Mbali in the television show Hush Money. She is well known for playing Wenzile Nhlapo in the film Uzalo. Additionally, she acted in the films State Enemy No. 1 and Safe Bet. Mbali Maphumulo appeared in the Moja Love TV program Erased in 2020.

Diagnosis of breast cancer
To fight cancer, one must have both courage and strength. Mbali Maphumulo showed both when she battled cancer twice. In 2001, the actress received a breast cancer diagnosis.
She alleged that the sickness made it so painful for her to breathe in and out. Her breasts still itched following a visit to the doctor. Her breast continued to itch, which led to the appearance of pimples and discoloration.
She asked for a biopsy, and it was then that the doctor discovered she had breast cancer. The cancer of Mbali Maphumulo went into remission, but it returned in 2005.
