Motshabi has a long history of acting in theater, television, and movies. She has appeared on several television shows, including the well-liked children’s show Takalani Sesame, the SABC1 drama Soul City, and the gritty, enduring SABC1 drama series Yizo Yizo.

She has also appeared in the television shows Mirror Mirror, Khululeka, Motsamai, and Kelebone. She also hosted the young chat program Crossover.

Motshabi, a former voice instructor at the Market Theatre Laboratory, co-wrote and directed No Second Chance, an industrial theater show about HIV/Aids for the Eskom Development Foundation that toured the nation.

Motshabi has led Active Communication workshops for companies like Avis South Africa, Transnet, The Department of Education, McKinsey Group, The Kelly Group, and Khalil Fattal et Fils while working with the American firm Corporatescenes Inc. (Lebanon).

At the 2004 Naledi Awards, her play Shwele Bawo! A Grave Injustice! received nominations for Best New South African Play, Best Set Design, and Best Performance by a Lead Actress.

This drama, which was one of the highlights of the Playhouse Company’s Tenth Celebration of the South African Women’s Arts Festival in August 2006, earned Motshabi the Best Performance by a Lead Actress honor.

She has also appeared in The Blacks, Robinson Crusoe, Mrital Bliss, Kweku Anansi, Chameleon, Two Weeks in September, and King Ibu, among other plays.

She voices three characters in the animated children’s television series Magic Cellar, which has won numerous international awards.

In Nothing but the Truth, which toured the UK after a hugely successful run at London’s Hampstead Theatre, Motshabi co-starred with John Kani. Additionally, she played the lead role in the play’s film adaptation, for which she received the 2010 SAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Feature Film.

She has also acted in other movies like Friends, Mrs. Mandela (TV movie), Hearts and Minds, and Wheels and Deals.

She appeared in the 2013 SABC1 drama series Tempy Pushas, which was based in the opulent fashion industry and contrasted with the vibrant township culture.

She starred in the 2015 season of the e.tv drama series Matatiele as Au’s Beauty, Lefa’s mother and a former beauty queen.
