Patrick Ndlovu

The South African actor Patrick Ndlovu is best known for playing Ntate Moloi in the drama series Zone 14 on SABC1. On Yizo Yizo, he served as the brutal principal as well. Patrick was well-known for his many TV appearances, including Mr. Thembu, the school principle, on the well-liked show. On May 30, 2023, South African actor Patrick Ndlovu passed away.

Menzi Ngubane

Menzi Ngubane was undeniably one of South Africa’s most prolific actors. Most of us knew him through his roles Generations, Ashes to Ashes, and Isibaya. He acted on countless movies and with these ventures, he quickly became a household name. As the years went by, his health started to deteriorate. He passed away in 2021 after suffered a stroke.

Tshepo Ngwane

Tshepo Ngwane, who became most famous for his role as Thiza on Yizo Yizo, went on to star in SABC 1’s Zone 14 and unfortunately died in 2015, aged 39.
According to reports, he passed away at the Jabulani hospital in Soweto after a short illness.

Jabu Christopher

Though his character was somewhat of a troublemaker, Gunman found his way into the hearts of many. Which is why it was so sad for fans of the actor when he committed suicide in 2017.
Like many Yizo Yizo alumni, he also snagged a role on Zone 14 but also enjoyed a seemingly busy career prior to his death having starred in shows such as Generations, Jacob’s Cross, Keeping Score, Ses’Top La and many more.

Patrick Shai

Ntate Patrick Shai played the noble teacher Mr Edwin Thapelo who embodied what a great educator should be. Shai passed away in 2022, reportedly by suicide. He was on The River 1 Magic before his untimely passing.

Sandy Mokwena

The late Sandy Mokoena played corrupt teacher Ken Mokoena who took over the reins as headmaster after Mr Mthembu’s resignation. Ken was the total opposite of Sandy’s role on Scandal! as Bra Eddie. He died on 25 January 2018 in the morning of natural causes at the age of 68.

Mary Twala

Apart from her roles in some of Mzansi’s best soapies including Yizo Yizo, the veteran actress also appeared in numerous stage plays and films including Taxi to Soweto and Mapantsula.
Her final appearance on the big screen was in the upcoming indie movie This is Not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection, which has won several international awards. She passed away in 2020.

Mary Makgato

Just three days before she was set to celebrate her 52nd birthday, veteran actress Mary Makgatho died in a Pretoria hospital in 2017, after she slipped into a coma when she injured her head during a fall last month.
Mary was famous for her roles on Yizo Yizo, Generations, Rhythm City and e.tv‘s eKasi: Our Stories.

Themsie Times

Times is popular for her role as Maria Zibula in the SABC 2 drama 7de Laan. She also starred as Ma Jordan in the popular show, Yizo Yizo.
Mam Themsie also played a nurse in two seasons of the popular Madam & Eve. She passed away in 2021.
