Early life of Kaizer Motaung

Motaung, who grew up in Soweto’s Orlando East neighbourhood, played his first game with the Orlando Pirates FC at the age of 16. Motaung was chosen to represent the United States in the 1968 FIFA World Cup following team trials in Zambia. Atlanta Chiefs founder and owner Dick Cecil and former West Ham United player Phil Woosnam recruited Motaung to play for the United States.

NASL(North American Soccer League  Career

In a friendly game against Manchester City, Motaung made his North American debut for the Atlanta Chiefs as a substitute and scored two goals while battling bad weather and an injury. He continued to perform well for the rest of the season, scoring 16 goals in 15 games to lead the league in scoring. He was named “Rookie of the Year” for his achievement, and he also made the NASL All Star Team. In 1975, he entered the NASL once more and played with the Denver Dynamos for two seasons.

When Motaung came home in 1970, he decided to launch his own professional football team. In commemoration of himself and his former NASL team, Motaung given his team the name “Kaizer Chiefs”. Another South African, Jomo Sono, who had previously played for the Orlando Pirates, joined the New York Cosmos of the NASL in 1977. He returned to create his own professional football team, which he called Jomo Cosmos, together with his former NASL squad, the New York Cosmos. Jomo Cosmos was, however, demoted in the 2011–12 South African Premier Soccer League season.

Motaung was able to put together a fantastic combination of rookies and seasoned players in spite of early obstacles and opposition, and the team swiftly established itself as a force to be reckoned with. A sizable fan base grew fast for the Kaizer Chiefs. The Kaizer Chiefs became the most successful team in South Africa very rapidly, winning more than 78 championships and drawing an estimated 14 million supporters nationwide. In fact, it’s a running joke that the Kaizer Chiefs don’t often travel because their supporters exceed those of the host team. One of Kaizer Chiefs’ finest victories was the African Cup Winners’ Cup they won in 2001.

Family of Motaung

He values his family while being a respected manager and football player. He and his wife Valeta have five kids, which is wonderful. They go by the names Kaizer Junior, Bobby, Jessica, Kemiso, and Thabo (dead). One of his grandchildren goes by the name of Tyler Rhys Motaung. He is the son of Motaung Junior.

It seems that three of  Motaung’s children have continued his tradition. For instance, Kaizer Motaung Junior plays football for the Kaizer Chiefs. Jessica also oversees the marketing and advertising activities for his father’s organisation. Who is the first child ? His firstborn was given the name Thabo Motaung. Despite being born in 1969, he died in 2019. Bobby states that before dying, his brother battled meningitis for a very long time. He died at the age of 43.
