Nokuthula Xulu-Khuzwayo, their mother, was a widow with no job and five daughters to support, “and this compelled us to go out there and hunt for a job.” Nokubonga worked at a call center in Mount Edgecombe, while Nokwanda was a waiter in Durban. They didn’t keep these positions for very long since they believed they weren’t living their dreams. They made the decision to create a hair business in order to help their mother care for their less fortunate siblings.
