Kere Nyawo was born and raised in Phiri township in Soweto in Gauteng Province in South Africa. His date of birth is on the 21 October 1961, age 61 years old as of 2022. Most people knows him as Popeye but his birth name is Moses Kere Nyawo. He started being interested in acting in 70s, during that time he used to act in public earning cash for a living. While he was in high school he dramatized literature books.
“I read a lot and used to convert stories from the books into dramas. That’s where I started writing films. I became popular way before I played Popeye on Zone 14. I used to entertain people by speaking bad English and they would pay me,’ says Nyawo.
Who is Kere wife? Nyawo is a married man and has three children. We don’t know their gender. He has a wife but her name is unknown. His best friend is Thulani Didi whom he acted together on Zone 14, he played a character as Spinach. They have known each other for a long time since 1990s and are still friends even now.

Career journey
In 1980s he started his career which includes writing, acting and journalism related work. He became famous after played a character as Popeye alongside Spinach on SABC1 drama series Zone 14. In Mzansi Magic telenovela Isibaya he played a character as Eric. He also played a character as Vetkoek on The River which was was also aired on Mzansi Magic. Nyawo acted on Yizo Yizo potrayed a character as Thirty Eight. Also he became a presenter in 2011 on The Crown Gospel Music Awards on SABC1. (1)
In a romantic film called “For Love and Broken Bones ” he starred as Hlaudi. Couple of years in 2018 he starred in another romantic movie called Moratuwa alongside Zakhona Ndlovu and Moshe Ndiki. In 2022, he got a new role to act on The Black Door – Season 1 as Bulelani Ngcobo.
