Mothusi Magano was born and raised in Phokeng in Rustenburg. He is a South African actor who was born on the 26th of March 1979 which means he is 43 years old as of 2022. At the age 5 years, his family moved from a small village in Phokeng, Rustenburg and relocated in Mafikeng. So while he stayed in Mafikeng, he went to Mmabana Cultural center where he performed for the first-time in a pantomime called A Dragon For Dinner.

He enrolled to study dramatic art at the University of Witwatersrand in 1998. While doing his first year at  Wits, he auditioned for all acting plays. Luckily he played two; Death and the Maiden where he played Gerardo Escobar and Little Shop of horrors, in which he played Audrey Two.

Career journey in acting

He was asked by a friend to act as Harry Lime in his friend’s production of The Third Man in 2003. Before he play, he asked agent Moonyeenn Lee to watch the production. After two days, the agent signed him and through the agent he managed to film his first film. The fisrt film he appeared on was Gun and Noses followed by Hotel Rwanda and Tsotsi (Oscar Winner for Best Foreign Film), as well as FNB commercials.

Also he appeared in different theatre productions such as The Third Man, Stones in His Pockets, Venus, Four, Lysistrata, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet, Bread and Butter, Maid in the New South Africa, American Buffalo, The Coloured Museum, Sexual Perversity in Chicago and Hamlet.

In the drama series Zero Tolerance he played a supporting role in 2004. He appeared as Guest in television series such as Home Affairs, Sorted, Muvhango and Izoso Connexion. His first major television role was on the Lab in 2006, he appeared in 3 seasons.  Also he had recurring role on ITV drama series Wild at Heart, in 2010.

He appeared on SABC1 drama series Intersexions in 2011 as a guest. The following year 2012, he also played as a guest on SABC2 drama series 90 Plein Street. In 2013, he got a starring role to act on the SABC1 drama series Tempy Pushas, set against the backdrop of the lavish fashion world and juxtaposed with the vibrant township culture. The same year in November he became part of e.tv soapie Scandal! in the role of mysterious assassin The Dustbin Man.

After sometime he got another role to act on Skeem Saam in 2019. On Skeem Saam he potrayed a character as as Tumishang, a 30-something law student who moves in with MaNtuli (Dieketseng Mnisi) and Pretty (Lerato Marabe) as a tenant in their back room.

In 2022, Veteran actor Mothusi Magano starred as King Letsha III, the eccentric leader of the Akachi on the epic series Blood Psalms.
