Legendary actress Nandi Nyembe is struggling financially and people has started the donations. The actress is best for acting in drama series such as House of Zwide, Zone 14, Isibaya, and others.
How did Nandi Nyembe end up struggling financially?
Nandi Nyembe is currently 74 years old as of 2025. She has been off-screen for some time due to health issues and is wheelchair-bound. This has caused fewer opportunities to get roles. She is now in a wheelchair, which made things worse.
According to the video going viral, Nandi revealed that she had money saved up, but her son got sick. So she took all her savings, which was R88 000, and paid her son’s hospital bills. During that time, she is wheelchair-bound and can’t get roles anymore. That is why she is suffering financially.
What happened to her being in a wheelchair?
Basically, she is in her old age, and mostly with old age there are healthy issues such as not walking; the bones are getting weak. This is the time you find that their body is getting weaker and weaker. Chronic diseases such as diabetes and BP begin to shoot out.
It also depends on people; some will struggle to walk early in their 70s while others in their 90s. Nothing has happened to Nandi; it is just a health-related issue, not an accident.
The good news is that Nandi said that she can act despite being in a wheelchair. She just needs an opportunity to get a role.
“I may be wheelchair-bound, but my brain is not dead,” she said. “Give me a script, and I’ll show you that this brain is so alive,” she added.(1)

Is she looking for donations?
Nandi admitted to being in a financial situation and opened up that people who are pushed to assist can assist. Her plea is to a script; she doesn’t want to beg for money. She is feeling culpable for acting despite being wheelchair-bound.
People who took the video and saw her situation definitely understood that she needs donations. She is helpless.
At this point we can say the industry is exploitive because most actors are ending up suffering financially. Maybe it’s their fault also not to invest whenever they get paid. Film productions seem to be growing while actors are suffering.
Most people are tired of donating money, especially to actors and these celebrities. It’s now a norm.
