A week ago, the new Minister of Sports and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, released documents for South African artists who received payment during COVID-19 from 2020 to 2021. Surprisingly, some of the artists who received the payment look like they didn’t deserve it.
Department of Sports and Culture beneficiary of COVID 19
1. Arthur Mafokate
Arthur Mafokate received payment from the government during COVID 19. Not only did he receive the payment, but probably the whole family. His son, Junior Arthur Mafokate, also received the payment of R20,000. Also, his daughter received the money. Imagine three people from the same family. Arthur Mafokate has been associated with corruption lately, and people were astonished that he is still benefiting from the government after what he did. What surprises people is that Zola 7 didn’t receive a cent from the government. Later, after COVID 19, people had to donate money to him because he was broke financially.
Another artist is MaG. I don’t know what kind of music he produced, but he received payments of R75 000 from the government during COVID 19. A man who seems to think he can get a little from the government was even paid more than the real artists we know. It was shocking to a lot of people because Mag G was the last person on their minds.

Kelly Khumalo
To our surprise, the name Kelly Khumalo also appeared among the artists who received the payment. She received R20,000. I mean, a lot of people know the kind of person we are talking about. She is above everything, like she doesn’t beg; hence, she benefited from the government. We guess she needed it because everyone was suffering during COVID 19.
Zandie Khumalo
Zandie Khumalo is the young sister of Kelly Khumalo. She also received the payment from the government. As a family of prideful people, she even said, “What is R20,000?” To her, it was a little amount that she received. She got backlash from people because of that. She was not grateful enough.
Among the other names that received payment from the government are Rebecca Malope Foundation, Busiswa Gqulu, Dumisani Mbele, and Bethusile Mcinga.
One of the people who received the payment from the government was Mogale Motaung. People were so surprised at how he got the money because they don’t consider him an artist. He was paid R75 000, more than a real artist. People questioned how he fit into the list of artists. Maybe we just have to believe that there was so much corruption. Nigerian names were also found in the list. Also, Gayton McKenzie believed that some of the names didn’t exist, and some artists were named but didn’t receive the payment.
